The Florence Flamingos are thrilled to announce their 2024 head coach as Lex Tuten.

“We are very excited to have Lex joining us on staff for the upcoming season,” says Mitchell Lister, team president. “He’s got some great experience, and a lot of amazing ideas that are really going to set us apart and set the Flamingos up for success.”

Tuten is currently the assistant coach at Coker University. He played at North Greenville University for four years and Francis Marion for one year as a utility player, and played with the Redwolves in 2019 and 2021. Tuten was the Flamingos’ hitting coach for their inaugural season in 2022.

“I would like to thank the Florence Flamingos organization for giving me this incredible opportunity,” says Tuten. “I am very excited for this upcoming summer, and the pieces we have already begun putting together to compete at a high level on the field.”

He was born and raised in Johnsonville, SC, where his family still resides. Tuten loves spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He has three English Pointers, who love hunting with him as well. Tuten’s favorite professional sports teams are the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Panthers. While his goal is on field success with the Flamingos, he understands the organization’s goals are much more than that.

“I not only want the guys to develop their playing skills, but it is important they have fun most of all,” says Tuten. “It is important to me, with us being a fan first team, that the fans get the absolute most out of what the Flamingos have to offer.”

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and is pursuing his Master of Science in Sports Administration.

“My favorite quote is by Tommy Lasorda: ‘There are three types of baseball players – those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happens.’ As always, GO FLAMINGOS!”
